You could not be asked to double check because you are sure that you did at least one load of washing over the weekend and that was a feat in itself… it was a weekend Afterall!

My experience as a recruitment specialist has taught me some of the best candidates are the ones whom are not actively looking.

So how do these two things link up with one another? Simple, it’s about being connected with the right people to get you the job you’ve always wanted without actively searching or presenting yourself as an active candidate. One of the main platforms I use is LinkedIn to connect with the right candidates.

GDPR has made things a lot trickier for specialists to approach the top professionals in their vertical, therefore having to come up with creative ways to get people’s attention.

Now I agree a lot of us get spam messages or random connection request on regular basis, however what we tend to do is categorize everyone under the same umbrella. Our immediate reaction is to decline/ ignore messages we received on social media platforms like LinkedIn.

Therein lies the problem by doing that we can make the mistake of automatically declining targeted , well researched messages by someone that has taken the time to study your skillset and do their due diligence. Basically, the kind of person you should have in your connections!

It’s important for professionals to understand that there are two types of recruiters:

‘Jack of all trades and master of none’, vertically aligned specialist. My advice as a vertical specialist is to take a minute out of your time and see if they have taken the time to understand your profile as you might be declining a message to connect with an subject matter expert.
